On Building Intimacy with Self
Cultivate Love that Lasts Forever
My sweet angels,
Today I was reminded of a poem by Pablo Neruda, and I’ll repeat the few final lines here-
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live
it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.
Intimacy is a huuuge topic; many quarrels are fought between lovers to find the right balance of needs that maintain the relationship's sanity (and sanctity).
I remembered this poem thinking about how far I am in the journey of intimacy with myself.
Here Neruda claims, that as long as his lover lives, his love will always be in her arms, not leaving his own.
Technically if this love is possible, the lovers must be inseparable, and breathe through each other; their individual bodies do not exist. They have bypassed the science of reason and stepped into another dimension. Uffff!
It provokes the question - Is it possible to surrender to yourself, as Neruda did to his woman, and be One with your core?
Ask yourself - WHAT am I (not Who am I)?
Romantic relationships are great, but where is your relationship with self?
The Vedanta philosophy of the East teaches that “the manifestation of one’s divinity is the goal of life, which can be achieved through a conscious understanding of the oneness of existence.”
To seek what you need from others is a byproduct of the external validation culture. Seeking externally is an addiction, a loop for illness.
I know this because I’ve been there. There is no need to seek or be on the lookout for that intimacy, or the feeling of being cared for. In a friendship with self, these desires will metabolize automatically.
Forget numbers in relationships, focus on quality.
Healing the relationship with self will take time. It’s not a means to an end. It’s an initiative for life, not a nicotine patch for poor decisions of the past. Healing is inseparable from self-love.
My loves, if I had one wish, I wish for you to be healed, and Whole again.
Sincerely,
Zitni Zun
