π΅ My experiece with Date Seed Coffee
and why you should try it too!
My honey bunnies! π°π
About a month ago I wrote a post - Realistic Plan to Quit Caffeine. Check it out here. π
I eventually did consume it after 3 months, this month. And boy, did it feel incredible. ββ¨
In the first couple of sips yeah. Halfway through the cup, I noticed it wasnβt anything extraordinary. It was equal to any hot herbal concoction I had been making all this while. πΏπ΅
I didnβt miss it as much as I thought I did. I just missed the liberty to consume it. You know, how you want exactly what you canβt have? It was one of those things. π€β
Believe it or not, I struggled to finish the cup. π
But I wasnβt prepared for what was to come later. The coffee rush, the anxiety, the increased heart rate, and the general βoffβ feeling like someone has pulled me from my place of calm. ππ
That evening my coffee substitute finally arrived in the mail, and Iβm excited to share my experience! π¦π
Date-Seed Coffee πβ
Materials needed-
- Dates (preferably Ajwa Dates because of their chocolate caramel-like taste) π«
- Parchment paper π
- Cinnamon sticks πΏ
- Cardamom pods π±
- Butter/ extra virgin Coconut oil (optional) π§π₯₯
How to-
1. Pit about 200 grams of dates.
2. Wash and Dry them. π¦π§Ό
3. Line a cooking tray with parchment paper and spread out the seeds evenly. πͺ
4. Roast these seeds in the oven for 40 minutes at 200 degrees C. Shake up the tray every 10 minutes so they donβt burn. π₯β²οΈ
5. Grind the roasted seeds along with a few cinnamon sticks and cardamom pods. π°
6. Take a spoonful of the powder and transfer it to a French press. π₯
7. Fill it up with hot water and brew the date seed coffee for 5-7 mins. π
8. Pour the concoction into a cup and add a spoonful of butter or extra virgin coconut oil on top. βπ§
And thatβs it! π
But if you donβt have the time for this, you can certainly buy the ground date pits online, and just add hot water to it. This is the brand I used. ππ
Why the Date-Seed Coffee? π
- I love the roasted flavor of date seeds, and yes, in that way they do resemble coffee. π
- It uplifts your mood and makes you energetic, much like your cup of joe but without the jitters. ππ
- Date seeds aid digestion and promote gut health. π½οΈπ©Ί
- They are a good source of potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron. π₯π
- They reduce inflammation in the body. πΏβ€οΈ
- They are suitable for people who are looking to manage their blood sugar levels. π¬π©Έ
- They can help to reduce oxidative stress in the body. β‘π§ββοΈLearn what oxidative stress can cause you here.
- They are filled with antioxidants that can help promote a youthful appearance. π§β¨
Date Seed coffees are nothing new; theyβve just been popularized by social media recently. The Middle-Eastern cultures have been drinking them for ages. πβ³
I had my first sip on my trip to Turkey, a country that values Indigenous traditions to co-exist with modernity. πΏποΈ
A huge reason why I love this recipe is that it reduces food waste, and in that way promotes ancient wisdom, holistic nutrition, and living close to nature. π±π
If you try this, please let me know! π§π¬
In the coming letters, I will reveal more natural stimulants and teas Iβm drinking these days πΈβ
Love,
Zitni Zun ππ
