Romanticizing My Life
Of Rain Shower, Streetlights, & Shawarma
Hey folks!
Today I woke up to the most wonderful weather. The monsoon season has finally hit my part of the South Asian continent, coloring our world in occasional greys followed by crystal clear surroundings.
Monsoon rains are symbolic of renewal and cleansing. Everything is washed over. In the morning little pearls of water balance themselves on the sprigs of grass. They’re from the 4 AM drizzle, when most of us are still asleep; waiting on our appreciation before they dissipate under the hot sun. Nature surprises us daily, but we are too busy to notice most days.
Today, I’m in love with nature more than ever before.
A few nights ago while dining al fresco with a friend, it started showering lightly. A thunder here and there sent us running for his car. The roads glistened and the yellow street lights reflected brightly, like little suns in the dark. Somewhere someone turned up what sounded like a jazz recital. Trees were rustling in the wind that carried chilly air.
I stood in the middle of the road for a few seconds (felt like an hour), just consuming everything. The air was heavy with the scent of juicy shawarma. All my senses were heightened. I did not want that moment to end.
Romance and love for nature and all forms of existence are our primal instinct. They have been overlooked in pursuit of career, society, wealth, etc. Any philosophy that denies this concept, denies reality. Our mental and emotional well-being is not self-dependent.
We are part of the Whole. Until we surrender to the forces of Nature, and let them flow through us, we cannot feel Whole within us.
Everything that is meant for us, arrives when Nature has ordained it. Good or bad doesn’t happen to you. It just is. It just happens and you get caught in its occurrence.
So if nature has such a stronghold on our lives, why do we live so protected? Why don’t we release that control and let nature take its course? Why don’t we enjoy Everything before us that we have (until we blink and it’s gone)?
My friend was worried about getting wet in the rain and falling ill. So I quickly swallowed my proposal for a late-night drive on the expressway. Once home, I let the rain wash over me on my balcony.
Yours,
Zitni Zun <3
