The Sun, The Liver & The Stimulant Trap
Why Summer Feels Harder Than It Should
Hi My Loves! 💛
In the last newsletter, I declared the Sun to be our biggest friend. I also talked about Vitamin A toxicity and liver troubles.
Why do some people hate summer? Because they are living with compromised livers.
The hot and humid weather of India does not help—it can cause:
Hot flashes 🔥
Joint pains
Difficulty digesting hot-natured foods
🌿 Cooling Foods & Electrolyte Balance
If you struggle in summer, start by eating cooling foods and maintaining electrolyte balance with foods rich in potassium (e.g., coconut water, bananas, cucumbers). 🥥🍌🥒
We may be tempted to eat raw vegetables and leafy salads, but it's better to at least stir-fry leafy greens—even in summer—because they can be tough on digestion.
❄️ AC and Temperature Regulation
Staying in AC all day ❌ will not help you adjust to summer. Instead, try to maintain a balance between inside and outside temperatures so your body doesn't go into shock when stepping out.
India is hot for 8 out of 12 months a year. Instead of villainizing the Sun, we need to learn how to work with it. ☀️
The Liver & Emotional Health 💚
One reason we experience anger, irritability, rashes, and inflammation during summer is due to a toxic liver.
The liver is often ignored, even from childhood. Many babies are born with jaundice, and it is brushed off as "normal." But it's not—it indicates that the mother likely had liver issues, and both mother and child need specialized post-partum care.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the liver is connected to emotions of anger, irritability, and worry.
It saddens me when people simply accept these issues as part of their personality—as if being angry is just "who they are." It's easier to identify with emotions rather than analyze them or, better yet, get bloodwork done.
🧠 The emotional body comes from the physical body.
But instead of addressing the root cause, we let modern allopathic doctors diagnose and pathologize us. We adopt our condition as an identity and then make that identity our life.
Have you noticed how, when women meet each other, they immediately talk about:
Back pain
Digestion troubles
Migraine attacks
But they won’t stop consuming stimulants like caffeine and pain management pills, which keep them trapped in a loop of sickness. This discomfort earns them sympathy, and so it becomes their comfort zone.
The Vicious Cycle of Stimulants 🔄
To truly reset the body, cleansing the liver is essential.
We rely on various stimulants:
Coffee & tea ☕
Alcohol 🍷
Gaming 🎮
Shopping 🛍️
Fast food 🍔
Energy drinks ⚡
Marijuana 🌿
Music that glorifies sex, money, and drugs 🎶
This stimulant-loving behavior is directly linked to poor liver hygiene.
These stimulants create sludge in the liver, taxing the body and blocking its ability to be aware. In TCM terms, they block the Qi (vital energy) in the body.
